When I heard about the Razor A5 Lux scooter, I was a bit skeptical. The design definitely had changed the most compared to the other ones and it seemed to stray pretty far away from the razor brand. What I didn’t know is that there was a very specific purpose to this.

We’ve all seen kids ride scooters before. Rapidly kicking the ground, barely able to go faster than the friends that are jogging behind them. As it turns out, there is a reason scooters do this. The wheels are just simply too small to be efficient. The reason bikes are so much faster is because the wheels are so big.
But of course, us scooter lovers like the portability, versatility and fun that comes with riding a stand up scooter. So what about a compromise? A scooter with very large wheels that you can stand up on and coast around almost like a bicycle. The A5 Lux is just that. With 200 mm wheels, it dwarfs its predecessors.
Best Kick Scooter For Transportation
After riding it around for a few minutes, I had completely forgotten all about the other scooters. This was definitely the best kick scooter I’ve tried so far. It rides so smoothly and best of all it allows me to coast. I only need to kick every once and awhile in order to keep going forward which is really nice. I find that it has an entirely different feel to it.
Rather than a cheap scooter that you just throw around and do tricks on, it really feels like something you could use for transportation. In terms of getting from A to B it absolutely knocks the other kick scooters out of the park. If this is your only concern, stop reading right here, this is the scooter for you.
Razor A5 Scooter is Modifiable
If you are still not sold on the new design, I have some negatives about this product. The first issue was that the default handlebars were way to small. I found this to be kind of odd, considering that the scooter was built to accommodate larger riders (in fact it even says that exact words on the company website). Luckily, there is a solution. The handlebars can be modified quite easily. While I am not the most savvy mechanic, there are many youtube videos that explain how to do this simply.
If the handlebars are too narrow for you, this is definitely the move.The only other downside I can think of is that this is the heaviest product so far. Although 8.5 pounds really isn’t much, it is starting to get into the territory of not being able to be carried to work in a backpack, which concerns mea bit. Sometimes I can’t carry it around when my back is bothering me because it is slightly heavier.
Great Features on This Scooter!
A handy feature that I thought was kind of cool is the kickstand feature. When you pull out a small little silver lever underneath the deck you can stand it up straight. I know this is small but for some reason I like it. It makes the scooter seem more like a bike. Because this is a nicer model, it was considerate of Razor to add this feature so that the deck doesn’t get to dirty when you lay it in the grass or get scratched when you put it on the pavement.
This is clearly a premium product. The deck is shinier, the wheels are twice the size and the overall riding experience is much better. If you actually use the scooter for transportation, this kick scooter is far better than anything I’ve seen. You get so much momentum of each kick and when you are riding the scooter you spend a vast majority of your time gliding rather than kicking.

Final Verdict
After looking at the Amazon reviews, I found that this product had significantly better reviews than the A4. It would appear as if it fixed a lot of concerns. Just as with the razor A3, there are very few 1 star reviews, and most of them seem to be either an unlucky defective product or a problem that can be fixed with enough research.
If your handlebars are too narrow, you can modify them for cheaper ones. If your bolts are getting a little bit loose, you can tighten them with an allen wrench. It may seem like a little bit of work, but it is a worthwhile investment for a great scooter. The A5 is my favorite scooter of the four because it is the most enjoyable to ride. I hope you feel the same!
